About John F. Suggs

John F. SuggsJohn has served as a Westport Representative Town Member (RTM) for 10 years, taking leadership roles on school safety, open space and protecting our neighborhoods. His professional expertise in asset management analysis, public policy and community development has spanned over 25 years. Now working in forensic genetic genealogy, John created Family Orchard LLC, a successful business specializing in helping adult adoptees search for and reunite with their birth families.

John was a leader in the campaign that saved the iconic Cribari Bridge, protecting the Saugatuck and Greens Farms neighborhoods from 18 wheelers.

He is an advocate to preserve the excellence of our schools and facilities by fighting to restore critical school funding to the budget.

John organized and led the campaign to preserve 5.9 acres of endangered Westport land (known as the West Parish Meeting House property) as a State Archeological Preserve.

Like many Westporters, John was born and raised elsewhere. For him, it was California, where he worked as an affordable housing advocate, a history teacher, and a Jesuit seminarian. As a public policy director and lead investigator for the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission, he conducted investigations into bribes to elected officials and campaign money laundering, resulting in the largest governmental ethics financial settlement in U.S. history, at the time.

In 2003, John chose to move to Westport with his wife and newborn twins, Rachel and Josh, in large part for the schools but also for Westport’s distinctive character and resources. The twins are now freshmen at Staples High School.

John is a parishioner at Assumption Church and has volunteered for the town as a little league baseball and basketball coach.

For five years, John and his family have been hosting academically gifted but economically disadvantaged young men so they can live in our community and study at Staples High School as part of the A Better Chance Westport Community School Program.

John holds a BA in Political Science from Loyola Marymount University, an MS in Management and Systems from New York University and an MBA from Fordham University.
